WEEE Directive since 2007

FHA GmbH has been active in the field of the WEEE Ordinance since 2005. In 2007, FHA GmbH was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the RAL Quality Association to conduct a study on the recycling of VOC refrigeration appliances.

Since 2009, FHA GmbH has conducted an annual performance evaluation on the recycling of refrigeration appliances and a review of the material flow balance in accordance with the Waste Treatment Obligations Ordinance on behalf of UFH Recycling GmbH in Kematen.

In addition, the public relations work of the WEEE Coordination Office (EAK GmbH) has been supervised within the framework of various projects (homepage, school DVD) with regard to the technical part on the collection and recovery quotas and technical principles of the recovery of WEEE since 2006.

A determination of the masses of electrical and electronic equipment put into circulation was carried out to determine the recovery and reuse quotas in the years since 2006 on behalf of EAK GmbH in a consortium with Technisches Büro Hauer Umweltwirtschaft GmbH.

The quality of refrigerator recycling is of great importance, as the CFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) contained in older refrigerators contribute significantly to the depletion of the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect.

The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency of recycling plants with regard to the recovery of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and to set recycling targets.

Furthermore, a possible mixed operation of recycling plants with CFCs (fluorocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons) and VOC refrigeration units will be assessed.
